The problem
We came out to this Labrador property for a water leak. We found and repaired the first leak, but while doing that repair two more leaks turned up in other sections of the underground pipework. After several attempts to repair the existing pipe, it was clear the whole line needed replacing.
What we did
- Ran a new underground water service of about 60 metres around the property, from the water meter to the house
- Removed the old underground pipework
- Cut and removed a strip of concrete along the fence line for the new pipe route
- Laid the new line in trenches through the yard
- Tested the new pipework, which held pressure
Why it matters
When old underground pipe starts leaking in more than one place, repairing one leak at a time often just finds the next weak spot. A new line from the meter to the house replaces all of it in one go. Testing it under pressure before the job is signed off confirms the new pipe is sound.
