Stormwater drainage

Water pooling in the yard or driveway, running at the garage, or dumping from downpipes. We find where the water goes and give it a proper path away.

Common stormwater problems

  • Water pooling in the same spot after every storm
  • Water running down the driveway into the garage
  • Downpipes emptying onto the ground and washing out garden beds
  • Water sitting under the house or against the slab
  • Stormwater lines full of silt, leaves and sand

How we work out the fix

We look at where the water actually goes, not where it should go. We walk the site, find the low points, check where the downpipes run, and put a camera down the existing lines. Often the fix is a blocked or broken pipe, not new drainage.

What we install

  • Stormwater pits at low points, with a pipe run to the existing system
  • Channel drains across driveways, garage entries and patios
  • Downpipe connections so roof water goes into the pipes, not onto the ground
  • Repairs to broken or blocked stormwater lines

Every system runs to a lawful point of discharge, with enough fall for the water to keep moving, and is tested before the trench is closed.

In heavy rain

South East Queensland gets intense summer storms. A system that copes with a normal shower can be overwhelmed by a downpour. We size pits and pipes for the roof and yard area they serve, not just the spot where the water sits.

Common questions

Where is stormwater allowed to go?

Roof and yard water has to go to a lawful point of discharge, usually the kerb, a council drain or an easement. It cannot be pointed at a neighbour's property. We check where your existing system discharges before designing the fix.

Why does water pool even though I have stormwater pipes?

The pipes may be blocked with silt, broken, or never connected to the downpipes. A camera inspection of the existing line usually finds the answer.

What is the difference between a pit and a channel drain?

A pit collects water at a low point in the yard or driveway. A channel drain is a long grated strip that catches water running across a surface, such as at the bottom of a sloping driveway or in front of a garage.
