The problem
The owner of this Pacific Pines home wanted stormwater drainage installed in the rear garden, down the side of the house and across the back yard, so surface water had somewhere to go.
What we did
- Dug trenches through the back garden and along the side of the house with a small excavator
- Installed two stormwater collection pits
- Laid 12 metres of 90 mm stormwater pipe
- Installed 10 metres of Capiphon drainage line and a surface inlet
- Laid 20 metres of agg line
- Installed everything to AS/NZS 3500.3, the stormwater drainage standard
Why it matters
Pits catch surface water where it gathers. Agg line and Capiphon work below the surface, drawing water out of the soil along their length. Together they let a yard dry out after rain instead of staying soggy, and they move the water through pipework rather than letting it sit against the house or a fence line.
Doing the pits, pipe and subsoil lines as one job also means they are laid out to work together, with each line running to a pit and the pits carrying the water away.
